A woman who was left fighting for her life remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital more than a week after a fire at her home.

A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the incident in Kingsbridge Road, Lower Morden.

Police were called to the home at around 7.30pm on Saturday, March 8, where they found a 37-year-old woman suffering from at least 60 per cent burns.

She was taken to hospital and a police spokesman said her burns are so severe they could be life-threatening.

A 40-year-old man who had also suffered burns but did not need hospital treatment was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

A police spokesman said it is possible some kind of fuel could have ignited the fire to the woman as nothing else was severely affected by the blaze.

Officers believe a barbecue had been lit prior to the incident.
