The selfless work of a Sutton-based charity has been recognised with a prestigious award.
Mentoring, Advocacy and Peer Support (MAPS), part of Volunteer Centre Sutton, has received a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The award recognises volunteer groups that offer an outstanding service in their community.
MAPS provide mentors to disadvantaged children, taking them out into the local area to engage in activities.
They have over 140 unpaid volunteers who have received specialised training in working with young people.
The winners were announced on Monday June 2.
As part of the prize, members have been invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace.
MAPS Manager, Helen Gasparelli, said: "It is an honour and a privilege for MAPS to have received this award on behalf of the outstanding work of our volunteer mentors.
"We are looking forward to sharing the award with the MAPS team at our garden party later this month."
