Barclays Bank in North Cheam is closing down.

The London Road branch will stay open until September 19, when staff will be relocated to a nearby branch.

A Barclays spokesperson said: "The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices.

"In response to this change in customer behaviour we must evolve our business to meet their needs.

"At Barclays North Cheam branch, around two thirds of customers now regularly use alternative branches.

"In addition to the option of online, telephone and mobile banking, customers can undertake everyday transactions at any Post Office."

The nearest is the Lavender Corner post office 50 metres away in Cheam Common Road.

Gives the impression customers have been clamoring for the closure of their branch and loss of human contact banking services? Or is it he will of self-serving bankers to make more money?

Let's replace it with a shop that unlocks mobiles and sells IPhone covers - can never have too many of those
