Landscape firm rescues garden after cowboy builders theft

A landscape gardening firm came to the rescue of a family-of-three fleeced of £23,000 by rogue builders.

Dreaming Green, based in Worcester Park, was chosen by Channel 5 show Cowboy Builders, hosted by Melinda Messenger and Dominic Littlewood, to salvage the botched extension and garden job.

Elliott Smith, who runs the firm, said he could not believe the state the builders had left Wayne and Maria Marr’s garden at their home in Hampton Road, Worcester Park.

He said: “The builders they hired had just put down a couple of breeze blocks and left the garden in a terrible way.

“Not only did these guys fleece this family of an enormous amount of money but they also completely wrecked their garden.

“It would have normally been a much longer job but we worked 14-hour days and finished it in a week – but it was probably some of the most rewarding work we have done.”

The aim of the TV show is to repair and restore the damage done and then track down the rogue builders.

The Marrs had originally arranged for an extension and some detailed garden work to be done by a notoriously dodgy building firm.

But after laying some basic foundations and a building a solitary wall, the builders scarpered with the Marr’s savings.

Fortunately, the generosity of Dreaming Green meant the home and garden were restored within three weeks.

To avoid the problems the Marrs faced, Mr Smith recommended people tried a number of companies before deciding.

He said: “I would advise everybody to get another quote once they have found a company they are happy with.

“I tell all of my customers to ring around – but the cheapest deal isn’t always the best deal.”
