Laidlaw's show of perfection has Park purring

From an impressive start where Park were leading 28-0 after 33 minutes, Park were in a somewhat of a fix when the referee then sent no less than three Park players to the sin bin in the space of 8 minutes! The match started explosively in the 2nd minute when a sliced kick out of defence was fielded by Ed Lewis-Pratt who put Nev Edwards away on the left and the winger skilfully beat three tackles to score. Despite strong defending by the visitors, in the 15th minute Hugo Ellis went close and after a couple more surges nearer the posts the No8 could not be denied. On the half hour Park again threatened and when a ruck formed, scrum half Jack Gash skipped through a hole and went in under the posts. In the 33rd minute Gash put Lewis Pratt away and the inside pass put winger Charles Broughton in under the posts and the bonus point was achieved. The penalty count against Park had already been steadily climbing when Harry Rowland was sin binned in the 34th minute for tacking the man without the ball. Six minutes later Gash was sin binned for persistent offside and as the half drew to a close Ed Lewis Pratt joined his team-mates in the bin. The high penalty count had given Tynedale plenty of ball to play with but despite endeavour and territory, a solitary penalty on 27 minutes by Mathew Outson was all they had to show for it. Down to 12 men, as one might imagine, Park were in all sorts of trouble. With huge gaps to penetrate, George Cullen went over in first half injury time and then Ben Frankland eight minutes into the second half and 4 minutes later the gap was only 8 points at 28-20 with Cullen’s penalty. With the home side now restored to 15 men, Park set about the opposition with a notable and vigorous increase in intensity but it took them till the 25th minute to add to their score when Lewis Pratt made a break and Harry Rowland eluded the chasing defenders to score Park’s 5th try. Lewis-Pratt then put Edwards away for his second try in the 32nd minute and then Captain Darrell Ball added his name to the list of try scorers as the clock ticked down. A minute from the end of normal time Harry Rowland put his fellow flanker Luke Campbell away for try number eight and the coup de grace came in injury time when Hugo Ellis delightfully sidestepped the defending centre for Park’s ninth. Laidlaw drew matters to a close with his 9th successful conversion.
