Music night gives bands chance to play in Epsom

A new live music night is being held on Friday to give young bands the chance to play in Epsom.

Joseph Murphy, 18, a student at Guildford’s Academy of Contemporary Music, hopes the night will be the first of many gigs to remedy the lack of live music in the town.

His promotion team, Apeman Promotions, is hosting the alternative rock night featuring three bands at Bar XLR, in East Street, from 7.30pm on Friday.

Mr Murphy will also be performing as lead singer of Little Grim, a four-piece band that formed in Epsom but like many bands is forced to play elsewhere.

The Blues driven Water for Boats will open the night and the headliners will be Dance a la Plage, an up-and-coming band which released its debut EP in June.

Mr Murphy, from Ewell, said he came up with the idea while trying to find venues for a regional tour.

He said: "When I looked for gigs there were none in Epsom so I thought I would ring up Bar XLR to see if I could put on my own night.

"I'm trying to get the best turnout I can."
