Artists from the Croydon Jazz and Blues Festival will be taking part in one of the greatest jazz festivals on the planet this Friday.
As part of the London Jazz Festival, which has dozens of events going on throughout the capital, artists from the borough will be converging on Croydon Clocktower for an evening of the world's greatest jazz tracks that will culminate in a new composition by trumpet player Phil Singleton, bassist Dave Markee and a nine-piece band.
The first half of the evening will be underpinned by the Dave Markee Jazz Collective with tenor player Connor Chaplin, pianist Anthony Strong, drummer Paul Cavacuiti and Singleton.
The Collective will feature Markee's compositions and vocalist Strong performing tunes from his own newly released album Guaranteed.
The Phil Singleton Collective Big Band will then perform an extended performance of the new track written by Singleton which premiered at the Ashcroft Theatre last June.
This band introduces Singleton's music and showcases some stunning new young players with vocals by Jessi Markee.
Headlining the evening is The Quintet, an ensemble comprising of drummer Trevor Tomkins, bass player Andy Clyndert, tenor Art Theman, pianist J Pearce and Henry Lowther on trumpet.
London Jazz Festival, Croydon Clocktower, Katharine Street, November 13, 7.30pm, £10. Call 020 8253 1030 or visit croydonclocktower.org.
