Postman turns musician for top performance in Kingston

A postman will turn musician by night and perform a weekly gig at a Kingston pub from next month.

Lee Gordon, 33, from East Molesey who works as a postman to pay the bills, has always been passionate about music, singing and song writing.

After a small break in music, he is back and will be the headlining act at the Grey Horse and Ram Jam Club every Wednesday throughout May alongside a number of other unsigned artists from in and around the borough.

Gordon says: “I have stumbled on a bustling local music scene which I have very quickly been welcomed into.

I suppose you could say the local area has rejuvenated things and given my music new life.

“I have been a bit of a nomad in the past and I have lived all over the place in Norfolk, Shepherds Bush – even in Australia, but Kingston is where I want to settle.”

Guitarist Lee can often be found busking in Kingston town centre.

On the reception he has received so far, he said: “The local community have been so friendly and welcoming. I want to give something back and help put on a showcase for local singers and songwriters.

“I have met some really cool people and I know how tough it is to break into the industry. I want to help as much as I can.”

Gordon who grew up listening to the sounds of grunge, punk and rock, was a finalist for the BBC Radio 2 competition, New Talent Songwriter of the Year, in 2010.

However, his current influences have made his music a lot more acoustic. He says: "My wife is 30 weeks pregnant so it’s pretty close.

"A massive inspiration for me at the moment is becoming a dad."

The Grey Horse Sessions, the Grey Horse and Ram Jam Club, 46 Richmond Road, Kingston, every Wednesday in May, show starts 8pm, free entry.
