4:30pm Wednesday 6th June 2012 in Freetime By Sophia Sleigh, Reporter
An opera group will be singing Martin Luther King’s praises this month.
Sutton-based, Guest House Opera are performing I Have a Dream at All Saints Church, Carshalton.
The main work being premiered on the night, I Have a Dream, was composed by the groups in-house composer, Christopher Wood and uses lines from Martin Luther King’s famous Civil Rights speech of 1963.
The concert is their contribution to this year’s Imagine Festival of Arts which aims to increase people’s participation in performing arts in Sutton.
The theme of the event is pursuit of racial harmony through art and sport.
The event will feature an international classical soloist, mezzo soprano Akiko Enomoto.
The programme will feature other pieces, popular and modern, including rock opera and songs by Sam Cooke and John Lennon.
