An operatic society is hoping to dispel the winter blues by transporting the audience to Venice during its 10th annual visit to Leatherhead this month.

The Godalming Operatic Society are set to perform Gilbert and Sullivan's The Gondoliers, one of the most popular of the Savoy Operas.

The accomplished cast, joined by a 22 piece orchestra, hope to dazzle audience members with their version of the classic tale.

It is set in romantic Venice and combines beautiful music with a plot of love and intrigue and an exuberant Spanish flavour.

The troupe, which is one of the oldest amateur societies in England, has previously performed at the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera and the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Buxton.
