The works of one of the key figures in the early 20th century Art Nouveau movement will be celebrated at the next lecture in the Royston Pike series, delivered by watercolour artist Alan Hepburn.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh, architect and designer, created many of the most stylish and influential buildings, furniture and decoration schemes in the early 20th century.

His work was so unique, he was one of the only designers who was instantly recognisable from their crafts.

Best known for his chair and furniture designs, Mackintosh also designed public and private buildings.

His talents did not end there, as Mackintosh was also a talented interior designer and decorator who used a range of materials from metal and textiles to stained glass.

Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “Alan Hepburn will take you on a tour of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s most celebrated works.

“Mackintosh’s contribution to modern architecture and design is tremendous and he has influenced many generations of designers who followed.

“This promises to be a very interesting subject and Alan Hepburn’s knowledge of this tremendous artist will make it an evening to remember.”
