Bellowhead member Benji Kirkpatrick will play Croydon’s Oval Tavern this month with his new show of quirkily adapted Jimi Hendrix covers.

Last year, Kirkpatrick marked 45 since the legendary rock guitarist’s death with the solo album Hendrix Songs, which reinterpreted 12 of his tracks and adapted them for bouzouki, banjo and mandolin.

In support of the album, he will play the Oval Tavern on Monday, February 22. The first half of his Bendrix show will feature Kirkpatrick’s own material while the second half is dedicated to Hendrix’s material.

Kirkpatrick said: “Hendrix was an absolute one-off and changed rock music completely with the natural fluidity and brilliance of his playing. This project is about exposing his skill as a songwriter, which I think is often overlooked.”

The gig is part of a regular strand of concerts at The Oval run in conjunction with The Ukulele and Other Machines.

Tickets cost £5.50 in advance and the show starts at 8pm. Go to wegottickets.com/theukulele
