A pianist named Newcomer of the Year 2011 by BBC Music Magazine is set to appear in Banstead.

Ivana Gavrić had her Wigmore Hall debut and released her highly acclaimed first recording In the Mists in 2010.

Now Ms Gavrić is coming for a Banstead Arts Festival Society performance on February 2 at 7.30pm at the Banstead Community Association Hall.

The concert gives Ms Gavrić the chance to show her range, from virtuoso works by Liszt and Ravel to the intimacy and poetry of Grieg and Schubert.

The pianist was born into a musical family in Sarajevo and moved to the UK where she joined the Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s junior department.

She went on to read music at Cambridge University and completed her masters at the Royal College of Music in 2005.

She has performed in the UK at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and has given recitals in Europe and Japan.

She makes her US debut this year.

Tickets are available at the Ibis Bookshop in Banstead High Street and on the door.

Reservations can be made by phone, email and online.
