Local band and Glastonbury regulars the Poeticats are releasing a double AA side single on October 28 just before their Halloween Night residency at Brixton Windmill.
The genre defying band - whose lead singers are graduates of Rose Bruford College in Sidcup - will perform the new tracks, 'Kind Words Soft Kill’ and ‘Centre of the Concrete Square'  during their Arts Council backed set at the Brixton venue.
“We’re looking forward to performing our new material at the Windmill,” said vocalist and writer Catherine Martindale.
“Our fans are very loyal but we also want to build our local audience. Our gigs always have a lovely, rootsy feel but are run very professionally. The band is tight, the sound is impeccable and the musicianship is very high quality.”
A well known spoken word poet, Catherine formed the band three years ago with Wandsworth guitarist Baj Kenrick, fellow vocalist and Rose Bruford College graduate Ziggi Jadovski , bassist Dr Goat Foot and percussionist Vic Meadowcroft.  Their music has been described as “a stunning blend of spoken word, incredible experimental vocal harmony and eclectic musical accompaniment.”
“We really like doing things ourselves – writing, producing, performing - and are very interested in world music, “said Catherine.
“Ziggi is Portuguese so there’s even a Fado influence.  I tend to write about my life.  I was brought up on a south west London council estate so my work is very socially influenced.”
Poeticat have wowed crowds with performances at Glastonbury, Latitude, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, E4 Udderbelly and have supported Kate Nash, Ed Sheeran and Jamie Woon.
Hugo White of the Maccabees described them as: "A uniquely individual and  odd group, creating original music that defies any genre & creates its own.”
Gig promoter Lee Stop added,”There is a definite scene bubbling for this kind of experimental music and the Poeticats are pushing the barriers between spoken word and music.”
