London-based trio Partikel have been described as ‘one of the hottest young bands on the UK scene’.

They recently released their album String Theory which sees them teaming up with a quartet of string players to fuse their love of jazz, rock and world music.

As they prepare to play the Bull’s Head in Barnes on March 2, saxophonist Duncan Eagles told us what entertains them.

MUSIC

Your Local Guardian: Wayne Shorter Quartet

The radio station I listen to…

We listen to BBC Radio 3 a lot. They have a diverse selection of contemporary music and often feature live broadcasts of some of our favourite current artists.

My favourite band…

The current Wayne Shorter Quartet would have to be up there. They are a real band with an instantly identifiable sound. Their music is so spontaneous it's a totally new experience every time you hear them.

The album or song I can’t get enough of right now…

We have been checking out Kamasi Washington's latest album a lot recently. He has exploded onto the international jazz scene with the release of his album The Epic. It's great, loads of energy, virtuosity and takes no prisoners.

My favourite place to hear live music…

The Vortex in Dalston is great. Not too big and has a relaxed atmosphere and good sound. They are committed to supporting London based creative music and also book interesting international bands at always affordable entry prices.

My favourite festival memory…

The Love Supreme Festival has got to be one of the best festivals I've been to despite my £15 pop up tent doing absolutely nothing to keep out the rain storm that hit on the first night!

THEATRE AND COMEDY

Your Local Guardian: Ricky Gervais & Kermit

I always laugh at…

Ricky Gervais is an all-round favourite of the band. The Office is absolute genius.

My all-time favourite musical…

The Producers is a great one by Mel Brooks. Great music and funny tunes. Although we all want to see The Book of Mormon, being South Park fans we are expecting great things from that when we eventually get round to seeing it.

My favourite place to watch a show…

The Royal Albert Hall is another great place to watch a show. That place has a unique atmosphere and always gives a real sense of occasion.

TV AND FILM

Your Local Guardian: The Shining (15)

My favourite movie is…

Really tough to pick one we all agree on. The Shining is an absolute classic. Benet loves horror films and that has to be an example of one of the greatest horror films ever made.

As a kid I loved…

cartoons. They don't seem to make cartoons like they used too. Tom and Jerry was incredible. And it's great to see the Simpsons is still going strong.

I’ll make a point of staying in to watch…

Channel 4 is showing some great drama at the moment. We've been following Homeland religiously. It can be difficult to stay in to watch it all the time as it’s not quite good enough to turn gigs down for! But we make sure it's on series record.
