A 10-piece big band will be hitting the stage this month for a New Orleans inspired Bourbon Street Parade.

The Big Chris Barber Band will be performing a host of classics inspired by the blues music of New Orleans, Duke Ellington and Sidney Bechet.

Chris Barber, a British jazz trombonist, celebrated his 62nd year as a bandleader in 2001.

Inspired by the King Creole Jazz Band, Chris formed his first Barber New Orleans band in 1949 at the age of 19.

In 1954 he formed Chris Barber's Jazz Band and has been one of Europe's most successful traditional jazz bands ever since.

With over 50 years in the business, 20 UK top 20 hits and having performed over 10,000 concerts, his most recent reincarnation, The Big Chris Barber Band, was formed at the end of 2001.

His unique style of jazz is known to have influenced many contemporary artists including Mark Knopfler, Eric Burdon, John Mayall, Eric Clapton and Van Morrison The band will be performing at the Epsom Playhouse on November 30.
