Keeping Up With The Khans gave viewers an unexpected insight into what life is like as an asylum seeker in the UK.

The new documentary series from the people who brought you Benefits Street looked at another underloved section of British society – immigrants.

In the first episode we met some of the assylum seekers in Page Hall, Sheffield – such as Haider, who was scared to go back to Lebanon where he claims he is wanted by Hezbollah, and Omar, who had recently arrived in the country after fleeing Sudan.

While some people were sucked in by the story, others were disappointed it wasn’t a bit more like its Kardashian-based namesake.

As well as the immigrants themselves, viewers were introduced to some of the less welcoming members of the local community.

Lots of people were unimpressed with the views being expressed by some of the locals which were of the “why don’t they go back where they came from?” variety.

Although many Sheffield residents were quick to point out not everyone in the city was like that.

The star of the show turned out to be Omar, who couldn’t believe the wonders Sheffield had to offer, such as a 99p store and a fountain.

He got to see Concorde, and couldn’t believe his luck.

He even went on a date, after picking up some advice from his neighbours.

Everyone fell for his love of life, his work ethic and his positivity.

And the show’s happy ending came when he learned he’d be allowed to stay in the country.

Welcome to the UK, Omar!
