Judy Garland’s faded and sweat-stained dress that she wore to play Dorothy in The Wizard Of Oz is tipped to fetch over 1.2 million dollars (£770,000) at auction.
The blue and white gingham pinafore frock worn by the teenage star in the 1939 classic film could be set to become the world’s most expensive dress, if the sale lives up to its estimate.
Auction house Bonhams has given the dress the hefty guide price before it goes under the hammer as part of the Treasures From The Dream Factory auction in New York on November 23.
Catherine Williamson, director of entertainment memorabilia at Bonhams, said: “What is great about this is it has signs of use: There are sweat stains around the neck, but it is still in fine condition.”
