As spring has well and truly sprung, the London Wetland Centre is the prime location for a spot of bird listening.

As songbirds stretch their vocal cords and declare their territories and attempt to attract a mate, they hide within the dense foliage of trees or reed beds.

Whatever your level of interest in birds and wildlife, particularly those found at the WWT site, getting to know them by their individual sounds is a handy skill to possess.

In a 90-minute birdsong session, wildlife lovers will be guided by an expert to learn how to identify birds through song, along with picking up useful tips, notes and fieldwork.

While there is no guarantee on the types of birds visitors will hear, blackbirds, robins and wetland specialities like Cetti's warbler and lapwing are likely to make an appearance.

By the end of the course, bird listeners should be able to identify 10 key species just by their sounds and calls.
