Marvel’s latest superhero adventure, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, has conquered the UK and global box offices.

Joss Whedon’s sequel to 2012′s Avengers Assemble, starring Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner, has recorded the biggest opening weekend of 2015 and the biggest April opening of all time, surpassing Fast And Furious 7.

The film, which will open in the US on May 1, made history as the biggest opening for a superhero movie, after opening in the top spot in 44 territories.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron – which also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany and James Spader – has taken 201.2 million US dollars (£132.9 million) worldwide, including a four-day opening weekend set to surpass £18 million.

On Saturday (April 25) alone, it set a new record for the biggest single day for a Marvel or Disney film, and the biggest ever single day opening for a superhero movie with box office takings of £6.18 million.

It now looks set to succeed the 2012 movie, which took £51.9 million at the UK box office.

Fast And Furious 7, which features Paul Walker’s final big-screen outing, was previously the most successful opening in the UK, with box office takings of £15.6 million.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Joss, who will hand over the directing reins for the third and fourth instalments Avengers: Infinity War to Anthony and Joe Russo, has been enjoying his well-deserved break.
