When the nation’s longest-running soap teases that they have a big week coming up, you know you won’t be disappointed – Corrie goes in for stunts less often than some of their rivals, but when they do, they put on something really spectacular.

Fans of the programme have been on the edge of their sofas with anticipation over what the much-hyped May-hem would involve and this week the big reveal takes place.

But as with any great storyline, there is more than one dramatic thread running through these episodes…

Wedding Bells

Who doesn’t love a wedding, especially a soapland one? Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) are hoping to finally get their happy ever after this week, but will all run smoothly?

Steve has had his fair share of wedding day disasters in the past, and with his ex and former bride Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) on the warpath once again, can she possibly bear to let his big day with Michelle go off without a hitch?

Kym said of her character’s dress and wedding: “It was the third or fourth dress I tried, and I tried it in a size 16 so they were pulling it in! We had a specific idea in our heads of what we wanted it to be, because Steve and Michelle didn’t have very much money, so we wanted to make it look like it could have been second hand.

“We went for a vintage style because we wanted to make it look like they could have done everything themselves.”

She went on: “I was more nervous filming the proposal, because Michelle had to propose to Steve in front of a pub full of cast, and big cast like Eileen Derbyshire and Malcolm Hebden, those actors who are really old-school who have done a lot and are now watching you act.

Kym also had praise for her on-screen love Simon: “He lights up my life every day. I am so lucky to be his on screen partner, he is a joy.”

Meanwhile, it looks like wedding bells could be chiming for Kal Nazir (Jimi Mistry) and Leanne Tilsley (Jane Danson) too…

A Woman Scorned

Coronation Street
Tony (Terence Maynard) has been caught out by Liz (Beverley Callard) (ITV)

The mother of the groom Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) should be looking on proudly and wiping away a tear of joy, but she’s just received the bombshell news that boyfriend Tony Stewart (Terence Maynard) has been doing the dirty on her – with none other than Tracy, the mother of her granddaughter. And what’s more, they’ve been plotting to seize control of the Rovers Return from her.

Will Liz be able to keep a lid on her anger and devastation until the wedding is all wrapped up? Can she bear to play along at being a happy couple with oblivious Tony?

Watch out for one of Liz’s best scenes in ages as she takes out her frustrations behind the scenes at the Rovers.

Out For Revenge

Coronation Street
Tracy (Kate Ford) has got it in for Carla (Alison King) (ITV)

During 55 years of life in Weatherfield, Tracy Barlow is without doubt one of the most vengeful characters we’ve seen on screen.

But we all love to hate her and there’s nothing like a Tracy’s-on-the-warpath storyline to guarantee some must-watch episodes.

Everyone loves to hate Tracy (Kate Ford) (ITV)

This week, she’s vowed to destroy the lives of those she feels have wronged her, who include Carla Connor (Alison King) for buying out half of the Rovers, Liz for doing the deal with Carla, and she’s not too fond of Steve and Michelle, either – but where will her wrath strike?

And, more importantly, what lengths will she go to? She murdered Charlie Stubbs in the past, but could Tracy bring herself to kill again? We all know that Victoria Court flats are set to go up in flames this week, but what we don’t know is how much, if anything, Tracy has to do with it or whether the fire is accidental.

Who’s Watching The Kids?

The McDonalds, Connors and Barlows aren’t the only ones with trouble on the horizon – the Websters have a rocky road ahead too, thanks to unhinged Jenny Bradley (Sally Ann Matthews).

Jenny stays behind at Kevin’s (Michael Le Vell) house when he goes off to the wedding reception, but little does he know that his girlfriend is not just nursing a headache – she’s planning to step up her warped plan to keep his son Jack under her control.

Viewers have already seen her make a phone call confirming that she and the toddler will be moving to Hull, but just how far will she get? And what will be the repercussions for the rest of the family?

Executive producer Stuart Blackburn hinted: “I’ve never seen Jenny as a villain – I see her as a tragic woman. I’ve never thought of her as mad, but just damaged. This is not a villain, this is someone in deep need of psychiatric help. Whatever the outcome of this storyline, it’s not necessarily the end for Jenny as a character.”

Shocks In Store

Victoria Court ablaze (ITV)

Of course, half the fun of watching a week in soap like this one is that you want to be surprised by the twists and turns that haven’t already been teased.

So for now, we’ll shut up about what else to come – except to say that there are some pretty explosive developments in store for the street’s residents that you will definitely not want to miss…

Coronation Street continues tonight, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week on ITV.
