Katy Perry has said her “heart goes out” to a man who was tricked into thinking he was dating her for six years.

The pop superstar expressed her sympathy over the situation when she appeared on US station SiriusXM radio on its The Morning Mash Up Show.

The man in question is a chap called Spencer, who was led to believe he was in a long-distance relationship with the Firework hitmaker for years as part of MTV programme Catfish: The TV Show.

When hearing about the situation, Katy said: “My heart goes out to him, actually. Anybody who’s been fooled like that … people have dreams and people live in different parts of the world where not everything is so accessible.

“We live on the coasts and we get stuff in a way that some other people don’t get, and I feel bad for him. So I didn’t really like to indulge in that because my heart, like, would die.”

The episode of the popular series aired last week, showing a woman called Harriet from Gloucester posing as Katy making Spencer fall in love with her.

The lovelorn man even shelled out on an engagement ring for Katy – who is currently in a relationship with actor Orlando Bloom – in one of the most heartbreaking moments the show has ever witnessed.

He had thought he had spent the past six years emailing her and texting her before his world came crashing down when learning it was a hoax.

Harsh.
