Acclaimed rock musical Chess will be raising the roof of a theatre in Ewell next month.

The musical, written by award-winning lyricist Sir Tim Rice and former Abba members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, will come to the Adrian Mann Theatre in Ewell.

Hinchley Manor Operatic Society (HMOS), based in Surbiton, is putting on the show from Tuesday, March 5, to Saturday, March 9.

The musical is set at a World Chess Championship during the Cold War and focuses on the love triangle between two players, an American and a Russian, and one of their managers.

It produced chart topping singles with One Night in Bangkok and I Know Him So Well, a duet featuring Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson, which was Number One for four weeks.

A small band of employees of the Milk Marketing Board in Thames Ditton, Surrey, formed HMOS in 1949.

Their goal is to put on high quality musical shows that are enjoyable for everyone, with all profits go back in to the theatre company.
