Prepare for an evening of dance and music to transport you the fields of Russia, writes Andy Bloss.

The Russian State Dance Ensemble of Astrakhan are performing their show Russina Cossacks at the Fairfield Halls later this month.

Organisers say members of the audience will not have experienced entertainment like it as the group embark on their UK tour visiting 46 destinations.

The company have performed all over Europe and are now bringing their original choreographies to Croydon.

A host of artists from the ballet, orchestral and choir genres make up the 70 strong company.

The group have a reputation for their Russian and Cossack folk songs and their dancers, singers and musicians aim to wow audiences with their routines.

A spokesman says: "The Cossacks fiery dances and songs are as true and honest as the souls of their country folk, exuding yearning, bravery, hope, love and passion. "Prepare yourself for a journey through Russian Folklore with dance and music to transport you the fields of Russia.

"300 costumes have been crafted especially for the performance.

"Particular attention has been paid to the detail of ‘the Cossacks’ wonderfully traditional and elaborate costumes, opulent dresses and robes, all intricately designed to detail with veils, hairstyles and accessories to match."

He adds: "Come and witness the glowing vitality and immense warmth to live a Russian Cossack's life, if only for a night."
