If there was ever a time to get your fix of whodunits look no further than Fairfield Hall’s Murder Mystery Season this month, writes Andy Bloss.

Production team Talking Scarlet presents a three part murder mystery series in July and August as the popular murder mystery returns to the Ashcroft Theatre.

Stephen Beckett, previously of The Bill and Coronation Street, stars in Deathtrap, a play written by Ira Levin.

The story centres around Clifford, an unknown playwright who has sent a copy of his latest play to Sidney for comments.

Sidney is so impressed with the play that he persuades his wife Myra to help him plagiarise the play.

The plan appears to be foolproof but when Clifford arrives at the house, events take an unexpected and sinister turn.

The second play in the series, Murder Weapon, is written by Brian Clemens and stars Marcus Hutton from Brookside.

In this highly tense thriller, Chief Constable Jessica Bligh accompanies her friend Diane Tulliver home after a night out at the opera.

They arrive home to find Diane’s husband Paul has been shot dead, with ex-convict Charley Mirren standing over him with a gun.

The case is not as simple as first thought though and it soon turns out that it is not just the murderer’s identity that is in question.

Francis Durbridge’s thriller Suddenly at Home is the last play in the series. Starring Marcus Hutton, the play revolves around Glenn Howard who is trying to get rid of his wife.

The plan seems to be going well until an unexpected arrival turns up on Howard’s doorstep.

Stephen Beckett, who featured in the comedy A Cricket Match at Fairfield Halls last year, says Deathtrap is a must see play.

He says: "First of all it is essentially a great play with a great script. On top of that it is a thriller, so you have suspense, then on top of that you have.
