Funny, rude, poignant and bursting with energy, On The Halls at the Epsom Playhouse Myers Studio on Thursday 27 March is a new play about two women who dominated popular theatre and entertainment over a hundred years ago. Marie Lloyd – the Queen of the Halls as she was known – was famous for her songs with their suggestive lyrics which tested the limits of Victorian prudery.

Vesta Tilley was a child star who spent over fifty years as a professional performer. She was a brilliant comic artist who specialised in impersonating and sending up male roles, ranging from the upper class toff to the hapless soldier rushing to war in 1914.

On The Halls dramatizes the lives, loves and songs of these two women with tenderness, drama and a bit of cross-dressing comedy. But at the heart of the show are the dozen or so of their unforgettable songs that audiences still sing along to today. There will be a matinee and evening performance on Thursday 27 March in the Myers Studio and tickets are £10-12 and on sale now and can be booked by going to: www.epsomplayhouse.co.uk or by calling the Box Office on 01372 742555.
