One of Michael Morpurgo’s best loved stories will be brought to life at Richmond Theatre in a one-man show starring an actor from ITV’s hit series Whitechapel.

Private Peaceful, winner of the Blue Peter book of the year in 2005, tells the tale of a young First World War soldier and tackles the issue of life as a private on the front line.

Paul Chequer, who plays every character, believes the themes of the book resonate to modern audiences.

He says: “I just think that First World War stories are about living life on the edge and everyone who went to war had a story to tell.

“It’s a brilliant family show as there are plenty of different characters to relate to and when you see it as a child it does have an emotional impact on you.

“I think it’s Michael Morpurgo’s best book, it’s really powerful and the twist at the end surprises you which hooks people.”

The main challenge facing the actor is delivering all the lines throughout the 90 minute production.

Mr Chequer adds: “It’s quite a long time to be talking on your own and hopefully I don’t lose my voice on the days when I have two performances.”
