A Game of Thrones star is featuring in a new production of Dylan Thomas classic Under Milk Wood which is on a new nationwide tour.

Owen Teale, who plays Alliser Thorne in the hit TV series, is taking to the stage in a new version of the play.

The Welshman plays the narrator in director Terry Hands’ interpretation of the play which marks the centenary of Dylan Thomas’ birth as well as the 60th anniversary since Under Milk Wood was first produced in Britain.

A strong cast also includes Torchwood actor Kai Owen and Steven Meo from The Fabulous Baker Boys.

The play is set in Llareggub, a small Welsh town by the sea and features blind Captain Cat, Mog Edwards and his sweetheart Miss Price, Sinbad Sailor, Dai Bread, Polly Garter and more.

Thomas explores these characters lives, hopes and thoughts in their dreams during the night and during their day.

Vibe reporter caught with Owen Teale ahead of the performances at Fairfield Halls.

Andy Bloss: Have you always been a fan of Under Milk Wood? How special is it to be performing in the 60th anniversary tour?

Owen Teale: It’s a privilege to now be at the helm of this beautiful production of Under Milk Wood - a piece of work that is in my blood. Ever since I can remember there has been a Spring moonless night somewhere in my soul AB: Tell us about your role in the play? What kind of character is the narrator?

OT: I am the writer/father of the characters in this small insular community by the sea. I share the barely functioning unruly family with a new group every night.

AB: This was originally produced for radio, what changes do you have to make in terms of producing this on stage? What can the audience expect from the show?

OT: The audience will hear the genius lines of Thomas’s whilst watching a group of Welsh actors work together so beautifully to share not only their own characters but their very selves. It’s not uncommon that people leave the theatre laughing with a tear in their eye; a taste of being Welsh

AB: Obviously you have featured in Game of Thrones (GoT), how has that impacted on your career?

OT:I enter a pub and within ten minutes I’m asked for a photo with a fan. Within thirty minutes they will have tweeted the photo and fans arrive with books for me to sign. I’ve never been in anything on such a global scale

AB: Have you learned quite a lot from doing a series like GoT to take into other performances?

OT: Yes, to have the courage of my convictions

AB: If you have a couple of sentences to persuade someone to come and see Under Milk Wood what would you say?

OT: Like all the best parties, you will be sad when it’s over. Many people come and come again
