Nobody can answer why there was a camera on Devonshire Road, Sutton

We're watching you. Well, someone is. What the camera might have looked like. We're watching you. Well, someone is. What the camera might have looked like.

Mystery surrounds what appeared to be a speed camera fixed to lamppost for more than a week.

At the start of the month, eagle-eyed councillor Tony Shields spotted a camera on Devonshire Road, with accompanying rubber lines going across the road.

Assuming it was a traffic counting measure, councillor Shields asked Sutton Council and the police why he was not aware of any such plans to count traffic.

But to Councillor Shields' surprise, neither of the two knew anything about it.

Further calls to Transport for London, The Department for Transport and the Highways Agency have shed no light on the situation.

Councillor Shields said: "As they say on X-Files, the truth is out there. Shame the knowledge isn't inside the civic offices. The search goes on."
