A new pop-up shop is putting a disused space to good use.

You Are Here, a temporary shop in 44 Central Road, Worcester Park, has opened to provide a useful community resource in an otherwise empty space.

The shop, opened with support from a company called Meanwhile Space which finds uses for empty shop units, will host a variety of cultural and commercial events aimed at bringing renewed life into the area by helping to generate footfall, promote civic pride and forge stronger community links.

Councillor Kirsty Jerome, lead councillor on the Worcester Park and North Cheam Outer London Fund project, said: "This is an exciting idea which could help bring more visitors into the area and aid local traders.

"In tough economic times such as now it is important to explore any ideas to help invigorate town centres and stimulate business."

Arts and business projects and even out-of-school entertainment for the kids will all be hosted by You Are Here as the unit becomes a fully integrated part of the area.

The unit forms part of the Mayor of London's Outer London Fund project. Sutton Council was awarded in the region of £2m funding for two projects aiming to create vibrant centres encouraging visitors to the high street, supporting both new and existing businesses in North Cheam and Worcester Park between 2012 and 2014.
