A leading doctor from Epsom, Sutton and St Helier hospitals is encouraging pregnant women to get vaccinated against whooping cough.

Dr John Clark, a consultant microbiologist and the trust’s lead doctor for infection prevention and control, said: "Whooping cough is an unpleasant illness for anyone but it’s particularly dangerous for young infants. 

"It’s therefore vital that they are protected as soon as possible."

To find out more about the vaccination, pregnant women should contact their GP or speak to their midwife.

As a patient I have the greatest respect and gratitude for Dr. John Clarke who has been responsible for advising on treatment to rid me of serious and persistent infections over the years made worse with my impaired immune system. What a contrast with the anonymous management suits who have allowed themselves to be the tool of the service slashing politicians and their Department of Health who receive high pay for causing worry and misery instead of helping people as does the good doctor.
