Metal thieves target church and bar
5:30am Thursday 15th November 2012 in News By Sophia Sleigh, Reporter
Metal thieves have struck twice this month, removing brass handles from the doors of a church and a bar.
A brass handle was taken from the front door of the Holy Family Church, The Green, Sutton, overnight on November 4-5.
All Bar One in Sutton Town Centre also had two brass handles stolen on the same night.
No attempt was made to enter either of the premises.
Sutton’s Safer Neighbourhoods Teams are working closely with scrap yards to put them on alert for these items.
Sutton South Councillor, Tony Shields, said: "This is a new low in Sutton, pinching the brass door handles.
"I have written to Borough Commander Guy Ferguson requesting additional vigilance on this issue."
Police are urging anyone acting suspiciously around properties to call police immediately on 999.
