A charity has won an award for working with 1,100 volunteers to help people in the Civil Service.

The Charity for Civil Servants, in Anne Boleyn's Walk, Cheam, has scooped The Experts in Volunteering Charter Mark.

A mix of current and former civil servants across the UK support the charity by raising awareness, fundraising and visiting people in their own homes.

Staff at the charity were awarded for the way it supports the volunteers and helps to develop their skills.

The charity offers support and advice to people in the Civil Service during their career and in retirement.

Martin Faiers, of Volunteer Centre Sutton, said: "It’s a measure of the great work we’ve done together developing your processes and support procedures.

"Having spent time with your volunteers it is evident that they have high praise for the work you do."

Anne Wedgeworth, who volunteers at the head office, said: "My experience as a volunteer at the charity has been wonderful and the support received during my induction was fantastic.

"The charity has done a great job of showing me the ropes, and I have generated many new skills."
