The cause of a lorry fire which saw four cars and van go up in flames last week remains under investigation.

The fire on Friday at about 4pm resulted in the closure of the A24 Leatherhead-by-pass between Givons Grove and Beaverbrook roundabouts.

The fire was put out by 6.30pm using three fire engine pumps but caused traffic chaos that evening.

Watch Manager Mark Batchelor, from Leatherhead fire station, said this morning that two of the cars were totally destroyed and the lorry trailer damaged, but there were no injuries.

Mr Batchelor said: "The closure caused quite a lot of chaos around Leatherhead on Friday evening.

"At this current time there is a fire investigation going on."
