Crowds cheered as Father Christmas and the Mayor of Sutton lit up the town on Saturday.

Councillor Sean Brennan was joined by Father Christmas who had taken time out of his busy schedule to pay a visit to Sutton town centre.

The big switch-on followed an afternoon of music, dance and extracts from theatrical favourites.

Councillor Jayne McCoy, chair of Sutton’s housing, economy and business committee, said: “It is always very special when the Christmas lights go on.

“From a practical point of view it attracts much-needed business for local traders, but it also helps bring that little bit of magic which makes Christmas such a special time.”
