On a night out with my husband last week we decided to go to the cinema to watch Skyfall.
We are fairly equal distance from Wimbledon and Wandsworth Southside, but we decided to go into Wimbledon.
Big mistake.
Only able to take their last showing at 8.15pm, we assumed we'd park at Centre Court but saw on arrival that it shuts at 11pm and, not confident on when the film would end, we didn't think we could risk it, so drove around looking for somewhere else to park.
After a few minutes we found only the Merton car park round the back of Morrisons but it was full - but as we didn't have much time, we found a space which didn’t block anybody in, checked for any obvious signs whether that would be a problem (couldn’t see anything) and bought a ticket.
Obviously, given the amount of other cars doing the same thing last night, you are aware of the amount of parking penalties given out.
So my point is, on a night out in Wimbledon, where exactly are we supposed to park?
I feel I have been doubly penalised for using my local Merton city centre - extortionate parking charges (£4.50) and a fine (£30 if I pay quickly).
Compare that with if I go to Southside - free parking on a single yellow line outside on Garratt Lane.
Merton Council’s parking policies now mean that I for one will be leaving the borough on nights out from now on.
