Further security warnings have come from police after thefts from unlocked cars.

There were 14 such incidents in Elmbridge in the four day period from November 26 to November 28, with damage also done to gain entry.

Neighbourhood inspector David Hollingsworth said: “Most vehicle crime is opportunistic and therefore, it your vehicle doesn’t look like such a good opportunity then the offender is likely to move on.

“Vehicle security isn’t costly or onerous – taking a matter of seconds to remove items from within and local your vehicle could be all you need to do to deter a prospective thief.”

People are advised to always lock their car, physically check doors if using a remote fob, never leave personal possessions inside and do not think it safe to leave goods in the boot of your car.

Anyone who sees anyone behaving suspiciously, such as looking inside vehicles or trying door handles, is urged to report this to Surrey Police on 101 immediately.
