These two men are wanted by police in connection with a series of thefts in the High Street.

A 65-year-old woman was sitting in The Grapes pub when a man came in and sat near her before getting up and leaving through a side door at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, November 27. When she checked, her handbag, containing £110 in cash, foreign currency, a mobile phone, driving licence and more, had gone.

Days earlier, a woman was in Starbucks and CCTV shows a man coming in and throwing a jacket over a woman's bag at around 2pm on Friday, November 23. The man picked up the jacket but left empty handed.
Less than an hour later a 78-year-old woman was having lunch in The Grapes when a man stooped to tie his shoe lace, threw a jacket over her handbag then got up and took the jacket and the handbag with him.

Police have released CCTV images of a man they believe may have information about the first incident in the grapes and from Starbucks days earlier. They say the men pictured may not have anything to do with the thefts.

The incidents have prompted police to urge caution among shoppers. PC Duncan Harris, crime prevention officer, said: "Pickpockets work in busy and crowded locations where they can be close to you without being noticed, such as in pubs, cafés and shops. Often pickpockets work in pairs – one to distract you and another to steal from you."

Police have issued the following tips to stop people falling foul of the pickpockets:
- be aware of what is happening around you
- keep your bag fastened and close to you at all times
- make sure your wallet or purse is not visible
- avoid carrying your bag on your shoulder or your back

If you see a crime being committed, call 999 immediately. If you have any information about the incidents or recognise the men in the pictures, call  Sutton's town centre police team on 020 8721 2710.
