Mitcham's burgeoning music scene received a huge boost when two of its rising stars defeated high profile stars to claim Urban Music Awards.
Rapper Richard Abiona, who performs as Fuse ODG won best Afrobeat act at the awards ceremony on Saturday, while Clement Marfo and the Frontline won best group, beating JLS, Stooshee and Rizzle Kicks.
Mr Marfo, a former deputy head boy at Wimbledon College, said he was humbled by the award, while Mr Abiona, who was also asked to perform at the music awards used twitter to thank his fans.
Clement Marfo and the Frontline performed at Wireless and the Reading and Leeds festivals this summer, while Fuse ODG was propelled to fame by the success of his single Asonto, which has had more than 1m Youtube hits.
