Local businesses have put the sparkle back in Crystal Palace this Christmas.

With no plans to put lights up in the area, estate agent Winkworth’s got in touch with the Crystal Palace Chamber of Commerce to sponsor the Christmas lights.

The lights were then freely installed by contractor Skanska UK.

Calum Mason, director of Winkworth’s Crystal Palace branch on Westow Hill said: “It was important to have the lights up here.

“Especially because the Crystal Palace and Norwood Chamber of Commerce are running a window display competition based on the 12 days of Christmas and Linda Barker from ‘Changing Rooms’ is coming here to judge them.

“Not having any Christmas lights would have been miserable. It means we’ve always got them. It means we can build on them for the future.

“It was important to get something back.”

Tickets are also on sale for the Christmas Race Pantomime held at the Upper Norwood Joint Library on Saturday December 8 and people are advised to contact the library ASAP to secure tickets.

Tickets are priced at £2.50 for adults and £1 for children aged 3 or more. It starts at 3.30pm and ends 4.30pm.
