A new strategy which will raise awareness of dementia is set to be confirmed this month.

Croydon Council want to launch the strategy to help people take early action against the illness.

Around 3,300 people have been diagnosed with the condition in Croydon.

The aim is to provide more information about the illness, increase early diagnosis and increase support to carers.

Dementia sufferers will also have more assessments relating to their mental and physical needs.

The decision on whether to adopt the strategy will be made at the next Cabinet meeting on December 10.

Councillor Margaret Mead, cabinet member for adult services and health, said: “This strategy will change the landscape of dementia care across the community.

“Dementia is a terrible illness and we need to increase our understanding and awareness of the condition.

“Focussing on early diagnosis and prevention will help manage demand and improve quality of life, both for patients and their carers.”
