Twitter rumours of Nando's opening in Worcester Park pub site denied

Sutton Guardian: Nando's denies Worcester Park plans Nando's denies Worcester Park plans

Spicy chicken chain Nando's has denied internet rumours it is planning to open a restaurant in Worcester Park.

Twitter rumours suggested Nando's had bought the Worcester Park Tavern building in Park Terrace and was planning to open a branch there but the chain has rubbished the speculation.

A spokesman for Nando's said: "At this moment in time, Nando’s has no immediate plans to open a restaurant in Worcester Park, Sutton."

The pub took its last orders in August after owners Spirit Group revealed it was trying to sell the pub in May. It was refurbished in 2002 but became dilapidated and run down.

Nando's is fine as far as it goes, but this is an elegant building, and Nando's might dumb it down, unless they employ architects with real flair and sympathy for the building. Fat chance. Something like Cafe Rouge or, better still, Carluccio's would be greatly preferable. I'd travel across the borough from Sutton for a Carluccio's! I would not walk for five minutes to a tacky Nando's!

It's old news that this has gone to McDonalds!

They know that there will be public outcry - hence the undercover dealing.
