MP Tom Brake is praising a new body which has been created to regulate the sale of food in the UK.
The Grocery Code Adjudicator will mean supermarkets can be fined if they deal unfairly with farmers and other suppliers.
Mr Brake, the MP for Carshalton and Wallington, said: "This is a major step forward in securing better security for smaller suppliers, which are often at the mercy of their larger and more powerful counterparts.
"The Adjudicator will make sure that supermarkets that break the rules are held accountable.
"I’m incredibly proud that this long-awaited body is finally being established."
