Artistic makeover for Victoria House in North Cheam

SUTT: Building gets artistic makeover SUTT: Building gets artistic makeover

A building’s artistic makeover was formally unveiled last week as part of the borough’s Christmas build-up.

A two part project, funded by the Outer London Fund (OLF) and the council’s Innovation Fund, has dramatically revamped the front of Victoria House in North Cheam.

The artwork called Branch Lines has been completed by artist duo Sam Skinner and Charles Holden and features tree motifs stretching across the building’s windows and main stairwell.

A great improvement but how long until it gets graffitied and also how much taxpayers money did it cost.
As usual with these public works of art how much did we overpay the artists?

What a complete waste of the Outer London Fund! To think that cash is being found to 'paint up the wall' at a time when 2016 Olympic hopefuls are having their funding cut! The only positive I can see is that when (rather than if) someone else's unpaid graffiti effort is plastered over the top of this paid graffiti, none of us are going to either notice or care what the difference is.

When is Seb Coe's dead cert Olympic Legacy money generated by our forced contributions through our council tax going to come flooding in to us in a form we can recognise?

Sticking a rose-petal on a turd. It's still a turd.

Noting Michael Pantlin's comment, I would point out that Team GB won just ONE gold medal at the 1996 Olympics, compared to TWENTY-NINE in 2012... and I'm sure he can recognise the immediate difference in the form of the gap between 1 and 29... and that's just this Olympics.

As for plastering graffiti around North Cheam, does he or anyone else really believe it will inspire business and consumer confidence? "Growth through Graffiti" sounds like something from the Monster Raving Loony Party!

This is a great improvement. No ifs, no buts. Well done Sam and Charles.
