A young mum who died after she found fatally wounded in her home has been named as Rebecca Sessacar.

The 25-year-old was found in her flat, in Duppas Hill Terrace, Croydon, by police officers and ambulance crews at about 3.20pm yesterday.

She died at the scene.

It is understood her husband, Bulent Sessacar, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder. He is currently being treated in hospital for a number of injuries.

It is also understood that the couple’s six-year-old daughter was in the flat at the time of the incident.

Sandra Ward, the mother of Rebecca Sessacar, said she was devastated when officers told her the news of her daughter’s death.

Ms Ward, 58, described Mrs Sessacar as a dedicated mother and a dedicated wife. She said she was currently training to be a teaching assistant at the Aerodome Primary School, Purley.

She worked at Asda in Beddington Lane.

She said: "My daughter was always good with children. She loved her daughter and spent a lot of time with her. She would read to her all the time.

"She was training to be a teaching assistant as she was great with children.

"Rebecca was always happy and outgoing. She was a lively girl. She would never like to hear people grumble. Rebecca always looked on the bright side of life."

Ms Ward added: "She was a dedicated wife and mother. She was always by his side."

Karunanithy Mukunthan, 33, who lives on the top floor of Duppas Court, said Mrs Sessacar was very good with the children who lived in the flats.

Mr Mukunthan said he saw police crash through the front door as they entered the flat. He described that the daughter was taken out by police and Mr Sessacar was taken to the ambulance on a stretcher.

Mr Mukunthan said: "It is really shocking that something like this could happen here. I am really surprised.

"Rebecca was a very nice lady, her daughter is friends with my daughter. She was very popular with a lot of people here and she had a huge trampoline for everyone to use. She sent a letter to everyone saying they could use it.

"It is very sad what has happened."

Another neighbour, who didn’t wished to be named, said the couple had arguments in the past with police sometimes being called to deal with the matter.

Police said they were called to a disturbance at Duppas Court, in Duppas Court Terrace, by the Croydon flyover, at about 3.20pm.

A spokesman said: "Police and London Ambulance Service found an injured woman in her mid 20s who was then pronounced dead at the scene.

"A man in his late 20s was found with injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

"He was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently receiving treatment at a south London hospital."

Police said enquiries were ongoing to establish the circumstances of the death and a post-mortem examination was due to take place later today.
