The dawning of a new year means dreaded resolutions that many people give up on shortly after, and exercise and healthier living is one of the most common pledges.

There are many ways to get fitter without having to fork out for a membership at the gym.

Exercising with friends or like-minded people is always a great motivating factor, as they will help you stick to your goals when the going gets tough.

A gentle way of getting active again is to walk or cycle, and if you are looking for a group of people that meets on a regular basis to cycle or walk with, you could join Elmbridge Council’s healthy walks and cycle rides scheme.

Weekly walks from Molesey Community Centre will continue on Tuesday to attract many participants, and the Thursday walks continue to take place from Claygate Community Centre.

Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “It can be hard to break old habits but taking regular exercise is more easily achievable than you would think.

“The healthy walks and cycle rides scheme is a great way to start being more active while getting to meet new people. These short walks take place every day in different locations and can make a huge difference in getting you fitter and healthier.”
