A woman is dead and two men have been critically injured after a car was involved in two separate collisions.

Police were called to London Road at the junction with Ederline Road, Croydon, at 5.20am this morning, where an Audi and Volkswagen had crashed.

Following the collision, there was an altercation involving a number of men.

Plain clothes officers, who had been on duty nearby, identified themselves as police and when they intervened a number of men made off from the scene in the Audi.

Officers stayed with the injured driver of the Volkswagen and the man was later taken to hospital by ambulance where his condition is critical.

It is not known at this time whether his injuries were sustained in the collision or the subsequent altercation.

At around 5.30am, the same Audi was involved in a collision with two people on Streatham High Road.

Police, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended the scene.

A woman in her 30s,who is believed to have been standing at a bus stop was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police await formal identifcation and confirmation next of kin have been informed.

A man also believed to have been at the bus stop, was taken by ambulance to hospital, where his condition is critical.

The occupants of the car left the scene before officers' arrived and the damaged Audi was abandoned at the scene.

There have been no arrests at this stage and enquiries continue.

Officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit at Catford are investigating together with officers from Croydon and Lambeth.
