A young couple got their Christmas wish when their first born arrived on Christmas Day.

Jemma Wilson, 22 and Gavin Ephgrave, 24 welcomed 7 lb Elsie into the world at 2.05 am at St Helier Hospital, nine days after her due date.

The first-time parents, who live in Matlock Crescent, Sutton, both of whom work at Sainsbury's in North Cheam, have decided to also give Elsie a separate birthday to her one on Christmas day, so she have a day when she is the only one opening presents.

Miss Wilson explained: "We really want her to have a birthday so we are going to have an Elsie day in the Summer, at least then she will get two sets of presents rather than one. My mum has already started planning for her first birthday next Christmas though."

St Helier Hospital saw eight babies arrive on Christmas day - two boys and six girls.

Thirteen babies were born on New Year's Day

We need our local District General Hospital Maternity Unit at St. Helier. Sending maternity work to Tooting will create more stress and pressure for everyone involved.
