The Bentall Centre boasted its busiest Boxing Day since it began trading on the holiday, as 59,952 shoppers poured through its doors for the sales.
But the overall number of shoppers for the Christmas period was down compared to 2011.
The busiest day before Christmas was Saturday, December 22 – up by six per cent on the year before.
Kirsty Crawford from the Bentall Centre said: “We had a good Christmas – really strong. The total footfall was above national trends. With Christmas falling on a Tuesday, people were really out in force over the weekend.
“People said it was going to be doom and gloom but it looks like people still have money to spend.”
Town centre management company Kingstonfirst is yet to collate its footfall figures.
