A new competition is being launched today for ideas to improve neighbourhoods and schools.

Award winning social enterprise BioRegional, based at BedZED in Hackbridge, has launched the scheme and will welcome Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake this afternoon at 2pm.

The competition is looking for ideas to improve areas with the two winning ideas to get sustained support and coaching to make their ideas reality.

This One Planet Sutton Community Challenge will be launched today at The Trinity Centre, Maldon Road, in Wallington.

A spokesman for BioRegional said: "Entries need to improve Sutton’s environment and green spaces, help residents reduce their ecological footprint and contribute to at least one of the ten principles of One Planet Living.

Together, these principles aim to secure a sustainable future that people find attractive, affordable and achievable within their fair share of the earth’s resources. This grass roots, bottom up challenge is an important part of Sutton and BioRegional’s goal for a One Planet Borough."

The competition will involve a big communications campaign with a roadshow and a dedicated website.

Ten ’semi-finalists’ will be chosen from the project ideas submitted.

In the summer, two winners will be chosen by public vote; these two will be given extensive, expert advice on project development and fundraising with mentoring support continuing until March 2014.
